Cem’s Got A New Bud Bundle

Cem Olcay has released a new bundle which includes some of his buddies. The Generative Bundle is available for $15.99. The price of these apps if purchased separately is $19.96.

The Bud Bundle – Generative MIDI includes MelodyBud, ShiftBud, SnakeBud and ArpBud 2.

SnakeBud

SnakeBud is a 16-step AUv3 MIDI Sequencer with a 4×4 grid. You can set the note, gate, velocity and probability values for each step and you can also toggle them on/off.

It has 56 snake patterns for the sequencing on a 2-dimensional grid which differentiates it from the one directional sequencers. You can get 56 different sequences within the same grid.

SnakeBud has a music theory engine with 40+ scales which can be changed from the settings menu. You can lock the notes in a scale and you can change the scale even when the sequencer is running.

With the randomiser, you can randomise the notes, the snake pattern or all parameters at once.

You can save the current state in a pattern and create as many patterns as you want by pressing the plus button in the patterns section on the bottom-left side of the screen.

The AUv3 plugin exposes more than 90 Audio Unit parameters. You can control them or even automate them with the supported audio unit host apps such as AUM, Cubase, apeMatrix.

The standalone version of SnakeBud supports Ableton Link.

SnakeBud does not produce sound itself, it’s a MIDI app and requires an audio app in order to work. Just route the SnakeBud MIDI output to the audio app’s MIDI input and arm the sequencer.

ShiftBud

ShiftBud is a random looping generative MIDI sequencer based on the eurorack module Turing Machine by Tom Whitwell.

It works based on the 16-bit shift register chips where it shifts its value on each sequencer step. However, you can lock the sequence in a desired length if you fully rotate the chaos knob to the left or right. If you introduce low amount of chaos, then the sequence “flips” occasionally and generate beautiful sequences. You can also produce random values if set higher amount of chaos.

The MIDI note generation can be in more than 110 scales plus your custom ScaleBud 2 scales. You can set the octave range, velocity or velocity randomness as well.

You can set the higher and lower bounds on MIDI Control Change generation as well as the CC number you want to control. It’s very useful on modulating synth parameters and you can even modulate the ShiftBud’s AU parameters as well.

You can create unlimited pattern pages on the lower left corner of the app and you can select the pattern with MIDI CC messages as well.

Please note that ShiftBud is not an audio app that generate sound. For the AUv3 plugin, you need a host app such as AUM, Cubasis, apeMatrix, Nanostudio, Beat Maker etc.

MelodyBud

MelodyBud is an AUv3 MIDI sequencer with great generative sequencing capabilities. Instead of a traditional sequencer, you can randomise your notes, velocity, octave, and gate length of your steps, add ratchets and glide to make it more interesting!

One of the most powerful feature of MelodyBud is “parameter-locking”. With parameter-locks, you can set a step’s randomisation values individually. That lets you create richer melodies. For entering the parameter-locking mode, you can simply tap a step’s number on the top of the sequencer. The step and the control knobs turn orange when you enter the parameter-locking mode. If you edit a control when you are in the parameter-lock mode, the sequencer will execute that configuration for that step instead of the global configuration. You can tap the step’s number again for exiting the parameter-lock mode.

You can work in more than 40 scales, you can even change them while the sequencer is running. With the AUv3 plugin, you can change them with the AU parameters and even modulate/automate them along with other parameters.

The standalone version supports Ableton Link which lets you in-sync with other Ableton Link enabled apps.

MelodyBud is a MIDI app and it does not produce any audio or sound on its own. You need to route its MIDI out to another audio app in order to sequence it and getting sound off of it.

ArpBud 2

ArpBud 2 is a MIDI Arpeggiator app where you can create unique arp patterns and be able to arpeggiate your favorite software or hardware synthesizers.

Unlike the traditional up/down style arpeggiators, you can design your unique patterns with unlimited number of steps. For each step, you can set the note interval, velocity, octave, ratchet, gate, and probability. ArpBud 2 also has a very powerful randomizer where you can randomize any step for any mode.

In a project, you can create unlimited number of patterns. For each pattern, you can assign different note rates and swing values. You can use MIDI CC messages from other apps for changing the playing pattern.

From the settings menu, you can assign a MIDI CC number for the pattern changes, the maximum number of interval numbers, randomizer settings, and knob control settings.

ArpBud 2 would react your pattern changes and step edits on the fly when you are playing it live, which makes it a great live performance tool as well as a arp design tool.

You can use it on standalone mode, IAA (Inter-App Audio) mode, Audiobus mode, AUv3 Audio Unit plugin mode. It also supports Ableton Live as well.

ArpBud 2 is a MIDI effect tool and does not produce sound on its own. It needs both MIDI input and output connections in order to work.
