Mawf – A FREE Machine Learning-powered Plugin Synth – Currently A Beta

Bytedance, the company behind Tik Tok are due to release Mawf, a machine learning plugin to emulate the sound of acoustic instruments.

Mawf uses machine learning to morph audio signals to create emulations of real instruments. The plugin’s engine can also run on MIDI input alone meaning users can use Mawf as an effect to colour an existing sound or use it as an instrument by itself. In its beta version, Mawf offers models of three instruments: saxophone, trumpet and the khlui, a Thai flute but could be expanded to cover more instruments upon its release.

Mawf can be downloaded for free by users outside of the U.S., but beta testing is limited to the first 500 sign-ups, so we suggest moving fast if you’d like to snag a copy.

Mawf is currently only available to Mac users.
