Austrian Harpsichord – recordings of an instrument by Johann Anton Miklis in 1671. It’s got 3 sounds – an 8′, a 4′ register and their combination – projecting the rich and slinky texture of Austrian-built instruments which Mozart would have known. The harpsichord is presented in its original Valotti-tuning at 392 Hz. Presets at 440 Hz are also available.The sample library contains nearly 1.600 single samples.
English Harpsichord – offers an instrument built by Jacob Kirckman in 1766. With two manuals and many registers, it brings many unique sounds to table. We sampled 6 sounds/combinations. The instrument was captured in its original Valotti-tuning at 368 Hz (presets at 440 Hz are included as well). The sample library contains over 3.600 single samples.
French Harpsichord – contains an instrument built in 1171 by French builder Nicolas Pigalle. The huge tone plus delicate finesse and detail make it is an excellent representation of the French style. The harpsichord is presented in its original Valotti-tuning at 383 Hz. Presets at 440 Hz are also available. The sample library contains over 3.400 single samples.
Like all harpsichords, the instruments are not touch-sensitive. However, no note will sound exactly the same twice. We captured eight samples per note. Furthermore, we recorded four key release sounds per key.
The libraries are part of our Edition Beurmann series of museum instruments. Andreas Beurmann (1928-2016) was a German musicologist and instrument collector, researching historical piano instruments.
