Mela users and fans, it’s time to rejoice!! Nikolozi Meladze will soon be unleashing Mela 4 for iOS and MacOS users. There’s no information available on pricing and availability however beta testing is in its final phase.
Nikolozi has described Mela 4 as ‘a completely new product’. Mela 3 will remain in the App Store as users may still find it useful for some tasks.
The next major update of Mela steals the ideas from the Mela MIDI plugin, takes them further and unifies all 3 plugin types into one modular design. Going from Mela 3 to Mela 4 will feel like a big jump. The new version addresses a lot of common user requests and adds new dimensions of possibilities for creating music and sculpting sounds.
The key thing is in Mela 3 (both Mela synth and Mela FX), the plugins were static – the modules are statically wired. Mela MIDI plugin was developed independently with a modular approach. Now in Mela 4, all 3 plugins (Mela synth, Mela FX and Mela MIDI) are unified into one however they still can of course be loaded as a synth, effect or a MIDI effect plugins.
In Mela 4, now there are 38 modules of all types MIDI, Audio, Modulators etc. Now most of the MIDI modules are the same as they were in the MIDI plugin, however now they can be used inside synth or audio effect plugin type as well. The new audio processor modules and modulators are based on the modules that were built-in Mela synth and Mela FX in version 3 however, they were expanded and improved. There are also new modules included with Mela 4.
Mela 4 can run as a standalone app and as a plugin.
More information to follow as and when made available.
