Hiss And A Roar have released the Jetty Wharf Marina sample pack, a new ambience library, available at the intro price of $24.50, increasing to $49.00.
This library specifically targets waterlaps and ambiences around various locations in NZ featuring a jetty, wharf or marina. Recording required considerable travel through Marlborough Sounds, and Banks Peninsula as well as locations closer to home – Plimmerton Boat Club and Mana Marina.
Recorded 32bit 192k multichannel using MKH8040x2 with MKH802x2 spaced omni and MKH70x2 microphones for pointillistic/spot elements. The library is released 24bit 96kHz with full UCS metadata and photos of each location.
This new ambience library was both a pleasure and a PITA to record. Well researched, Hiss And A Roar headed off on a road trip through Marlborough Sounds and while their first five locations beautiful… they were unrecordable. One was ruined by a relentless leaf blower, another by fishermen who had set up for the entire day. Another sounded more like a trickling tap than a beautiful jetty! But that’s why Hiss And A Roar always have plan B, and a schedule with enough flexibility to pursue more remote locations.
After a few weeks down South recording Hiss And A Roar headed home & began recording a couple of local options, based on specific weather conditions: Plimmerton Boat Club and Mana Marina, which both provided lovely ‘wind in mast’ clatter…
The result of all this work is a multitrack ambience library of waterlaps, ranging from gentle & singular waves, to diffuse and choppy, along with a series of Marinas. Don’t expect industrial port, or creaky ropes – this library is purely focused on waterlaps around jettys and wharfs, and boatyard wind in masts…
