Izmar Updates VMPC2000XL – Still FREE To Download

Izmar has updated the desktop and iOS beta of VMPC2000XL with new additions and bug fixes, available as a free download. The iOS version is currently being tested, there’s currently no release date.

What’s new in version v0.5.8:

  • Allow custom skins.
  • Fixed an issue with Timing Correct. It was ignoring the note range.
  • Support using the slider in the Zone screen, as well as in all the Fine screens. As usual, hold Shift while moving the slider to change Start, End or Loop To.
  • Fixed unnecessary memory allocation.
  • Optimized memory and disk usage while recording and previewing sounds, and when bouncing sequences and songs to disk.
  • Support key repeats on Linux. Note that the delay and interval are hardcoded at 400ms and 25ms respectively.
  • Added demo beats to Linux and iOS versions.
  • Updated documentation
  • [internal] Unit tests are now run in the CI/CD. Although we don’t have that many unit tests, a bunch of important functionality that was historically fragile is now always tested before publishing a new release.
  • Additional info regarding AU use in Logic

For those who love the classic workflow, look and charm of the original hardware unit, the MPC2000XL emulator is on its way for iOS users, (currently available for desktop users as a pre-alpha build). As with the desktop versions, the iOS version will be available as a FREE download. It’s too early to speculate on the availability of the iOS version.

Known as the VMPC2000XL, iOS users will soon have the opportunity to embrace the features and workflow that made this unit such an iconic piece of hardware. The final version will of course feature AUv3 connectivity to work within products like AUM and Cubasis 3 and will also have standalone functionality.

Features include:

  • Feature parity with the original
  • Linux, MacOS and Windows support
  • iOS support (work-in-progress, preview available upon request)
  • Standalone application, as well as VST3/AU/LV2 plugin (and AUv3 in upcoming release)
  • Load/save most of the MPC2000XL file formats: APS, ALL, PGM, SND, MID, WAV
  • Raw USB volume (CF card) support with Akai FAT 16.3 filenames for direct exchange between the original and the emulator
  • Multi-track direct-to-disk recording, a.ka. “bouncing”, to WAV

This has been a ‘pet project’ for a good while but is reaching the final stages before it hits the beta stage.

Note: VMPC2000XL is in no way associated nor has had any creative input from Akai Professional, this is an independant developer project.

VMPC2000XL is currently available to PC, Mac and Linux users (VST3, AU and LV2), the AUv3 version will follow.
