David Hilowitz has released Refractictions, available at the intro price of $29.00, increasing to $99.00 after the promotion. The offer ends January 4th.
Refractions lets you sequence live audio using a piano roll. It’s a lot of fun, and very versatile: you can use it as a sequencer, to create gorgeous shimmer effects, or (if you’re into this sort of thing) to make out-of-this-world glitchiness.
This is the first commercial audio effect David has released, and he could not be more proud of how it turned out. He’s been working on it on and off for the last eight months, slowly tweaking it, adding features, as well as using it to help score his Youtube videos. The result is this completely unique sonic exploration toolkit. Refractions takes your incoming audio, chops it into fragments, and then resequences the fragments into something new.
The pattern editor lets you fully sequence the incoming audio.
There are a ton of different ways to use Refractions: you can use it to generate new melodies from existing audio, to turn simple tones into shimmering soundscapes, or even, if you want, to generate uniquely glitchy sound effects. Since you never really know what sounds will result, experimenting with this plugin is both fun and extremely addictive.
Features include:
- Intuitive User Interface: Refractions boasts an intuitive interface, allowing you to dive right into the creative process without any steep learning curves.
- Customizable Pattern Editor: The patterns that come bundle with Refractions will give you a taste of what it can do, but the real fun starts when you create your own sequences using the built in pattern editor. The pattern editor is very flexible: not only is there a piano roll view, but you can also edit the raw underlying sequence data, which allows you to use fractional note values.
- Gorgeous Rippling Delay: Once you have a sequence going, you can give it even more shimmer by engaging the stereo delay.
- Stability and Compatibility: Designed with stability in mind, Refractions seamlessly integrates into your favorite digital audio workstation (DAW) without compromising your system’s performance. Its compatibility with various formats ensures that you can incorporate its magic into any project seamlessly.
- MIDI Input: At its core, Refractions is actually a sample-based synthesizer. It takes incoming audio, turns it into a sound which then gets played by the sequencer. But here’s the thing: you don’t actually have to use the built-in sequencer. If you want, you can actually hook up external MIDI input and use that instead.
Refractions is available to PC and Mac users (VST2, VST3, AU and AAX).
