Meteaure Studios have updated Polaris, available for $3.49. An iOS version is in development.
What’s new in version 1.2:
- Polaris 1.2 allows you to create even more detailed tracks with the introduction of multiple patterns per track. Key benefits:
- Extended length: patterns can be chained within a single track to create sequences of up to 128 steps. This is perfect for creating extended melodies, evolving basslines, or intricate drum loops.
- On-the-fly variation: multiple patterns can be used as instant variations for a track. You can easily switch between different grooves, fills, or motifs on the fly to keep the track interesting and dynamic.
- This update provides the flexibility needed to build much richer and more complex track content than ever before.
- Get started: On the ‘sequence’ page, tap the ‘four squares’ icon below the grid. From there, click the ‘expand’ button to create a new pattern, which will be a duplicate of the original pattern.
- Bug fixes and improvements
- This update ships with multiple bug fixes and usability improvements. These changes are subtle so you might not even notice most of them, but they contribute to the overall experience of making music easily with Polaris.
Inspired by modern drum machines and grooveboxes, Polaris is an Android app allowing you to quickly create patterns anywhere, anytime.
With your device always at hand, capture those inspirational moments right from the start, or let yourself experiment with quick ideas.
Sequencing is at the very core of Polaris. For any of the 6 tracks available, use the 4×4 grid to enter steps and trigger notes. Because 16 steps might not be enough, you can take advantage of the trig conditions to make a note play once every 4 grids for example. Oh and one more thing, you can modulate several parameters per step via the modulation sequencer.
Take advantage of the 2 instrument types – sample or synth – to generate complex bass lines, harsh noises, or explore the factory sounds that come with the app. No matter the instrument, shape your sound in detail thanks to the dedicated filter and distortion modules.
Adjust key parameters for each track like volume, reverb or delay sends – all from a single place – to bring your pattern to life.
