Oliver Greschke has updated Elastic OSC with a new LFO section and more, available for $9.99 (usually $12.99).
What’s new in version 1.2:
- Update 1.2 brings the long-awaited LFO support to Elastic OSC.
- 12 LFO 1 is free; additional 3 LFOs can be unlocked via In-App Purchase.
- Each LFO offers:
- Frequency (0.02 – 20,000 Hz, or tempo- synced)
- Shape (Sine, Triangle, Ramp Up, Ramp Down. Pulse, Sample & Hold)
- Fade: Fade-in time after being triggered • Phase: Define the start phase
- Svnc: Run the LFO in sync with project tempo
- Hi Trigger Modes:
- Retrigger – restarts with each new note
- One Shot – plays a single cycle when triggered
- Free – runs freely without retriggering
- Enable: Quickly compare modulation by toggling the LFO on/off
- XY Pad Control
- Use the XY Pad to control Frequency (X) and Shape (Y)
- Use the XY Pad to record modulation of Frequency and Shape changes
- 6 MODULATION TARGETS:
- Following the Plaits / Elastic OSC philosophy (“Keep it simple, with the greatest impact”), the LFO section provides six knobs for controlling the modulation depth of six powerful core targets.:
- Frequency Amount
- Timbre Amount
- Morph Amount
- Harmonics Amount
- Filter Amount
- Pan Amount
All Amount knobs can also be automated, enabling dynamic changes of modulatior depth.
The MIX view lets vou define how strongly each active LFO affects a target parameter The closer a target is placed to an LFO, the stronger its influence. All active LFOs always add up to 100% (e.g., LFO1 50% LFO2 30%, LFO3 20%)
FURTHER CHANGES AND BUGFIXES:
- New Presets in LFO Category by Servandc
- New Presets in LFO Category by Another Machines (AM)
- FREQ slider now switches between Octave and Free Pitch mode via double-tap
- Sliders now display values, just like knobs
- The filter is now polyphonic (and can be shaped with an LFO as a pseudo-envelope
- Added a third kevboard mode for iPhones
- Presets can now also be imported via “Open In Elastic OSC”
- Bugfix: Wave Terrain engine could produce unwanted buzzing in certain situations
- 6-OP / DX7 engines now display the preset name
- General stability improvements (issues in Drambo, etc.
Elastic OSC is a playful synthesizer with multiple oscillator modes!
Elastic OSC is a synthesizer app based on the DSP code of the Mutable Instruments Plaits hardware oscillator module (generously made open-source by MI mastermind Emilie Gillet), one of the most beloved (and cloned) oscillator module in the Eurorack modular scene!
Like the original, Elastic OSC comes with a wide variety of possible sounds, from analog-style, FM, and additive sounds to physical modeling, percussive, to even drum sounds.
While Plaits is monophonic, Elastic OSC can also be used in 8-voice polyphonic mode. This means you can use it either as a sophisticated, experimental monophonic sound source — like the original — or as a regular polyphonic keyboard with a wide variety of great sounds. Of course, you can also combine both approaches!
You can play the app using the on-screen keyboard, or via an external keyboard / sequencer — whether it’s a DAW like AUM, Cubasis, Logic (using Elastic OSC as an AUv3 plugin), or external hardware.
The first release of Elastic OSC is for the iOS platform, available as a standalone iOS app or an AUv3 plugin.
Elastic OSC is designed for playability and simplicity – much like the Plaits hardware, which uses just four main knobs to control all essential synth parameters. In Elastic OSC, these four core parameters are mapped to an XY pad, allowing for quick and intuitive sound tweaking, while a second XY pad offers direct control over the built-in effects.
Elastic OSC is essentially a one-screen app with no menu diving. Despite its clean and minimal interface, the sonic possibilities are vast: under the surface lie 24 different oscillator models and full parameter automation – as you know from other Elastic apps.
A versatile Arpeggiator makes it easy to start with simple ideas or can already create entire sonic worlds.
Elastic OSC includes an integrated help system (tap “?”) to provide explanations for nearly every GUI element, the underlying DSP model, and most of the app’s functionality.
Features include:
- Synthesizer
- 24 Different Sound Engines from MI Plaits DSP code
- 4 Main parameters per synth engine (Frequency, Harmonics, Morph, Harmo)
- Recordable Modulations/Automations for almost all Parameters with a length of 1, 2 or 4 beats.
- ADSR Envelope for Amplifier
- LPG Envelope for Modulations of Timbre, FM, Harmonics
- Adjustable Velocity effect on Volume and/or LPG Modulation
- Arpeggialator
- With different Arp Modes, Rates, Octave Ranges and Skip Notes functionality
- Master FX
- 5 Effects (5 different Overdrive/Distortions, Hi-Low-Filter, Chorus/Flanger, Delay, Reverb)
- Automations for all effects parameters
- Master Gain and switchable Limiter effect
