Riot Audio have released Vignettes, available at the intro price of £29.00, increasing to £39.00 after the promotion.
Vignettes is a nostalgic two-layer instrument with 3 octaves for each layer (i.e. 6 layers in total), built around 20 custom sounds culled from production sessions for previous Riot Audio instruments.
Vignettes is a call back to earlier simple Riot Audio instruments like Bowed Glass Clouds, Digital Analog Clouds and Bowed Guitar Clouds. The basic architecture is the same – two layers with 3 sublayers each, one per octave. Adding multiple octaves of sample-based layers leads to very rich, deep sounds.
The difference with Vignettes is that the sound sources are snapshots of sound elements and combined sound elements coming out of a range of Riot Audio instrument development sessions over the last few years. All of the patches or individual sound sources are new but Riot Audio instruments were used in their creation.
The result is a neat little instrument that synthesises some aspects of the “Riot Audio” sound very well, all while leading to new explorations.
