Venus Theory Releases Phostra – For Decent Sampler

Venus Theory has released Phostra, available at the intro price of $20.00, increasing to $40.00 after the promotion.

Phostra is an instrument library born from the intersection of deep-space photography and data sonification. By translating the light, gas density, and stellar structures of various nebulas into sound, this collection offers a hauntingly beautiful palette of boutique cinematic atmospheres sourced from the cosmos.

This was never a concept of another library of sounds – it’s my attempt at a translation of the universe’s most violent and beautiful structures into a playable musical format.

Phostra was designed as a specialized tool for composers and sound designers seeking textures that feel both organic and….well…alien. This library features 40 presets derived from celestial data captured over the course of 3 months providing an expansive soundscape selection that ranges from shimmering crystalline glimmers to the crushing, low-end pressure of a gravitational well. Whether you are scoring a sci-fi epic and want a little space-y goodness or just looking for unique ambient layers, Phostra delivers a distinctive sonic signature that’s quite literally ‘out of this world.’

The heart of Phostra lies in its dual-engine architecture. You can select and blend between two independent sources of either ‘full color’ or ‘narrowband’ captures, allowing for creative morphing possibilities between different nebular datasets. To further shape these sources, the library features a dedicated convolution reverb engine featuring a collection of unusual impulse response files designed for surreal, creative timbres and a stereo-offset delay to add depth and rhythmic complexity to the sonified data.

For those who want to dive beneath the surface, the Edit Tab provides a collection of sound-shaping tools. With per-source filters, the edit tab reveals their individual envelopes for sweeping movements as well as independent tremolo LFOs to create living textures. The Warble controls add pitch instability for drifting cosmic backgrounds, and the Wavefolder adds harmonic grit and explosive saturation to the ethereal sound of the library. And, of course, there are dedicated panning controls for each source to displace the cosmic field at your will.
