Cem Olcay has released SpinBud – Rotary Speaker FX, available for $4.99.
SpinBud is a rotary spatial modulation effect for iPhone and iPad.
It is built around a simple scene: your sound drives up to 3 rotating speaker plates, each plate can hold up to 3 horns, and a fixed stereo mic rig captures the movement.
Rotary Plates
- Use up to 3 independent rotating plates
- Set each plate’s speed, direction, horn count, level, phase, and band range
- Choose free-running speed in Hz or sync plate motion to host tempo
- Shape speed changes with Ramp Up and Ramp Down
- Drag plates directly in the visualizer for manual spin gestures
Split-band Motion
- Send different frequency ranges to different plates – Start quickly with band presets such as Low, Body Mid. Presence, Air. Full, and more
- Adjust custom Min Freq and Max Freq values per plate
- Use the spectrum view while finding useful band ranges
- Keep low movement slow and high movement fast or overlap bands for denser modulation
Stereo Mic Rig
- Capture the rotating plates through one shared stereo mic setup
- Adiust mic angle and stereo spread
- Set left and right mic distance independently
- Blend dry and wet on the main output
- Add Room for a small cabinet-style space around the wet signal
Rotary Character
- Add Doppler for pitch movement from approaching and horns receding
- Use Directivity to control how focused the horn movement feels
- Increase Tone to darken horns as they turn away from the microphones
- Add Wobble for motor drift, loose movement, or broken rotatior
- Push the excitation path with Drive
Presets And Routing
- Load factory presets for chorale, tremolo, brake wide. chorus. wobble, shimmer, lo-fi, and multi-plate
setups - Save your own user presets
- Run as a standalone app
- Connect MIDI in standalone mode and use MIDI notes to flick individual plates
- Use AUv3 multi-out in compatible hosts to route separate wet stereo stems for Plate 1, Plate 2, and Plate 3
SpinBud is not a full Leslie simulator. It is a rotating emitter plus fixed stereo listener effect for motion, width, rhythmic modulation, and split-band rotary sound design.
The AUv3 FX plugin needs a compatible AUv3 host such as AUM, Logic Pro for iPad, Loopy Pro, Cubasis GarageBand, BeatMaker 3, or another compatible host.
