Chih Han Lin has updated GranSample, available as a FREE download with an in-app purchase that locks the Pro version. The update is FREE to existing users.
What’s new in version 1.1.0:
- CHROMATIC MODE – Flip the Chromatic switch, pick a root pad and the whole grid becomes a chromatic keyboard. Every pad shows its note Honestly surprised it took this long to add – it turns the app into a real playable instrument, not just a drum machine.
- LONGER PATTERNS – Loops now stretch to 32 or 64 steps paginated into tabs so your screen doesn’t get crushed.
- PER-PAD ADSR (Pro) – Proper attack/decay/sustain/release with a live chart you can drag. Type exact ms if you want. Every pad gets its own shape.
- SAMPLE EDITOR CLEAN-UP – New per-pad properties panel: tune, loop, reverse. normalize loudness, trim playback range on an interactive waveform. Plus a LINEAR/GRAN toggle at the top – A/B both modes without committing.
- THE SILENT-MUTE BUG IS DEAD – This one haunted me for months. Run the step sequencer with 2+ granular pads on and eventuallv iOS’s audio safety classifier would mute the speaker – you’d have to kill the app to get sound back. Spent a real amount of time log-diving. Turned out the main culprit was Debug-build overhead (release builds mostlv didn’t hit it). but I retuned the grain scheduler, spawn cap, sub- voice pool, and engine-recovery paths anyway so it’s definitively gone in both builds now. If vou ever emailed me “it randomly goes silent”‘ – that report turned into this fix.
- Also fixed a click when retriggering melodic samples, and sequencer stop now properly fades out granular tails instead of letting them hang.
