Fors Release FMS: Handheld FM Groovebox – For Nintendo Game Boy Advance

Fors have released FMS, available for $10.00+.

FMS is a unique groovebox designed for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance, offering intuitive sound and music programming for live performance and studio recording, featuring a world-first implementation of four tracks of real-time 2-OP FM synthesis on the GBA, combined with the classic Game Boy noise channel for a distinctive retro-futuristic sound palette.

The software leverages the GBA’s capabilities, but is also highly accessible through emulators on various modern devices like computers, phones, and other handhelds, making its immediate music production platform portable anywhere.

It boasts an advanced sequencing system where each step can have unique sound parameters, individual track length, rate, shuffle, and trigger logic, along with per-step chord allocation, a powerful note echo effect, and pattern randomization and queuing designed for live immediacy.

FMS supports external synchronization via the GBA Link Port, analog clock, or MIDI through adapters like the Arduinoboy or Analogue Pocket, further enhancing its connectivity for musicians.

FMS requires Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance (not included).
