Mercuriall Audio has expanded its Ampbox ecosystem with the release of the Ubersonic amplifier module.

Here is a breakdown of the key features, the gear it mimics, and what you can expect from this high-gain addition.

Core Architecture & Sound Modeling

  • The Hardware Inspiration: Ubersonic is heavily based on the legendary Bogner Überschall Rev. Blue tube amplifier. The original physical amp is famous for its aggressive, dark, and earth-shaking low-end, making it a staple for heavy rock, nu-metal, and modern metal genres.
  • The Hi-Gain Channel: True to the original hardware, the focus is on the devastatingly heavy high-gain channel. It features a unique, somewhat unconventional tone stack configuration in the power amplifier section that works dynamically with the preamp to produce highly saturated, yet articulate, distortion.
  • The Engine: The module runs on Mercuriall’s latest proprietary Neural Hybrid Engine technology, which models the behavior of individual tube circuits and power supply links in real-time to capture the touch-responsiveness and sagging feel of a physical tube head.

Integration with the Ampbox Platform

Like all recent Mercuriall releases, Ubersonic is not a standalone application but a module that loads inside the free Mercuriall Ampbox host plugin (available in VST, AU, AAX, and standalone versions for Mac and PC).

By integrating into Ampbox, you gain instant access to a suite of built-in utility and effects modules to shape the Ubersonic tone:

  • Pre-Effects: Includes digital models of a variety of overdrive pedals (such as the TS-808, SD-1, and the recently added Spearion Klon clone) to tighten up the Bogner’s characteristically loose bass response.
  • Power Amp & Cabinets: Features a fully independent power amp section that can be switched on/off, alongside a robust impulse response (IR) cabinet loader utilizing private studio IRs and OwnHammer samples.
  • Spatial FX: High-quality stereo chorus, delay, and parallel reverb modules to finish off lead or rhythm tones.
