Simon Alexander has announced the availability of the OmniEQ public beta for iOS users. Please report any bugs, issues and suggestions to Simon via TestFlight, your feedback helps.
After over a year of research and an unholy amount of work, I’m really happy to announce the Open Beta for OmniEQ, a multi-instance, whole-mix EQ that can automatically de-mask and de-mud your mix while still giving you complete creative control!
Have you ever thought to yourself, I wish my tracks could know what my other tracks are doing? How about working on an EQ for a track and thinking, I wonder how this EQ curve compares to all of my other tracks? What about, I wish this mix could just keep itself clean?
Every track with OmniEQ on it instantly becomes aware of the frequencies, amplitude, character, priority, important harmonic zones, and much more on every other track with an instance of OmniEQ on it, up to 16 tracks at once!
When you place OmniEQ on all of the tracks that you want EQ, you can then control every single instance of OmniEQ in your project from any of the instances of the plugin. Example: Working on the bass track’s EQ and want to switch to the electric piano EQ? No need to back out and change tracks; just choose the electric piano instance from inside the OmniEQ interface, and any change you make will show up instantly in the OmniEQ plugin that is being remote controlled. You can see all of the EQ curves of every instance of OmniEQ at the same time, so you’re never unsure how your tracks fit into the whole. No more blind EQ.
While I’m not against the use of AI by creatives, the OMNI system IS NOT AI and it isn’t just guessing. It’s built on established psychoacoustic research into how human hearing perceives masking, applied with real-world signal processing. It never generates tone or tries to make your track sound like some reference — every decision is grounded in the actual audio and frequencies of your own tracks. The result behaves like a futuristic piece of very high-end engineering equipment rather than a generative box imitating something else, so you can trust that your sound stays unmistakably your sound.
Oh, and there’s a unique 3D view available for the EQ curves so you can see how they stack up to each other spatially front/back.
Plus, there’s a Mix Monitor that tells you in plain language what the OMNI system is doing, which is also a great way to learn more about mixing and working multiple EQs so that they work with each other, rather than fighting for space.
Presets exist in a new and extremely powerful and dynamic form as Role and Character cards. Think of Role as the instrument and Character as the tonal choices for the instrument. When you save your EQ, it is automatically split into a Role and Character card, so you could create a role for your favorite guitar, and use any character, including any of the 44 included Factory Character cards created from industry standard EQ settings. There are 56 included Factory Role cards to get you started with pretty much any instrument you can think of. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll love how fast you can set up your EQ settings so that your mix sounds solid. From there, you can adjust to your hearts content. OmniEQ works around your creative choices, so your flavor will always shine through. OmniEQ works to make sure your vision sounds clear at all times.
There’s more, and honestly, there’s a lot of groundbreaking tech inside of this plugin. There’s things that don’t exist anywhere on iOS, and even on any desktop plugin.
OmniEQ works great on iPhone and iPad, even in the half-screen vertical plugin hellscape that is the non-expanded view inside of GarageBand.
I’ll share the links to the Beta in TestFlight and the detailed User Guide in the comments.
Enjoy, and please let me know what you think! Share any issues that may arise, which is to be expected from time to time in this first version of the Beta, but I’ve been working very hard on this thing for a long time, and minus a potential hiccup here and there, it’s solid! Thank you for helping me make this thing as awesome as it can be!
