AOFN Audio Release Grizzly – A FREE Download

AOFN Audio have released Grizzly, available as a FREE download.

If your audio feels a bit too pristine, Grizzly by AOFN Audio (an old french name) is designed to bring back the raw edge. Modeled after the iconic 1979 Gristleizer circuit—made famous by Throbbing Gristle’s Chris Carter—Grizzly is a stereo modulation plugin built to be deliberately “badly behaved.”

At its core, Grizzly uses an internal LFO driving a modeled JFET stage, giving you two distinct character modes:

  • VCA Mode: Handles classic tremolos, choppy gating, rhythmic swells, and grimy ring-mod tones.
  • VCF Mode: Drives lowpass filter sweeps, autowah textures, and dynamic dub-style motion.

With built-in Drive to add warm op-amp saturation and Spread for wide stereo phase-panning, Grizzly skips menu-diving and presets entirely. It gives you ten simple knobs to drop in, dial, and transform anything from drums to vocals.

Features include:

  • 1979 Circuit Modeling: Faithfully recreates the organic modulation behavior of the classic Gristleizer circuit with modern digital clarity.
  • Dual Operational Modes: Instant switching between VCA (amplitude-based tremolo, gating, and ring-mod) and VCF (filter sweeps, autowah, and dynamic tone shaping).
  • Flexible LFO Signal Generator: Includes Triangle, Square, Saw Up, and Saw Down wave shapes.
  • Integrated Pre-Gain Drive: Adds -12 dB to +24 dB of op-amp warmth and saturation prior to modulation.
  • Stereo Phase Spread: Offsets the LFO phase between left and right channels for auto-panning and stereo widening.
  • Tempo Syncing & Wide Speed Range: Variable modulation rate from 0.01 Hz to 30 Hz, or locked to host tempo from 1/1 down to 1/32 note divisions.
  • Precision Waveform Sculpting:
    • Shape: Adjusts slope asymmetry (ramp speed) for triangle waves or duty cycle for square waves.
    • Offset: Controls rectifier drive to introduce silent gaps or continuous modulation across cycles.
    • Bias: Sets the resting attenuation floor (VCA) or base filter brightness (VCF).
  • No-Nonsense Interface: Minimalist design featuring 10 dedicated knobs—no menus, tabs, or preset surfing required.

Grizzly is available to PC and Mac users (VST3 and AU).
