Plugin Boutique are offering 49% off JUPITER-8 by Roland for a limited time, now only $99.00, (usually $199.00). The offer ends August 31st.
When synth historians discuss the defining instruments of the 1980s, the Roland Jupiter-8 invariably sits near the top of the list. Released in 1981, this polyphonic powerhouse helped define the signature sounds of Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, Prince, and endless synthwave and pop classics.
Now available in software form on Plugin Boutique, Roland’s official JUPITER-8 brings the lush warmth, intricate routing, and massive polyphonic sound of the original hardware directly into modern Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs).
The original Jupiter-8 was celebrated for its thick, organic analog tone—driven by two voltage-controlled oscillators per voice, flexible cross-modulation, and a silky smooth low-pass filter.
Rather than relying on simple sample playback, Roland engineered this software recreation using their proprietary ACB (Analog Circuit Behavior) technology. ACB models every individual component of the original analog circuitry, down to the subtle drift and electrical interactions that gave the original hardware its unpredictable, lively character.
While the plugin faithfully captures the vintage tone, Roland added several modern workflow enhancements that make it far more versatile than the 1981 original:
- Expanded Polyphony: Go beyond the original’s 8-voice limitation when producing dense chord voicings and complex atmospheric pads.
- Integrated Effects Engine: Includes built-in reverb, delay, chorus, and overdrive, allowing you to shape fully finished studio sounds directly inside the plugin.
- Seamless Preset Management: Browse hundreds of expertly designed factory presets, ranging from iconic retro lead and bass patches to modern cinematic textures.
- PLUG-OUT & Hardware Integration: Integrates seamlessly with Roland System-8 hardware controllers for hands-on, tactile control without manual MIDI mapping.
Whether you’re crafting classic synthwave leads, lush ambient soundscapes, or punchy electronic basslines, the JUPITER-8 plugin delivers that elusive analog “glue” and presence that digital synths often struggle to emulate.
Features include:
- ACB Modeling Technology: Meticulous component-level emulation of the original 1981 Roland Jupiter-8 analog circuitry.
- Dual Voltage-Controlled Oscillators (VCOs): Authentic dual-oscillator sound with cross-modulation, sync, and pulse-width modulation (PWM).
- Classic Resonant Filter Section: Includes both a 2-pole (12 dB/oct) and 4-pole (24 dB/oct) low-pass filter plus a dedicated high-pass filter.
- Flexible Voice Modes: Supports Solo, Unison, and Polyphonic performance modes for versatile lead, bass, and chord work.
- Classic Arpeggiator: Faithfully recreated hardware arpeggiator for instantly recognizable retro sequences.
- Built-in FX Processing: Onboard chorus, delay, reverb, and distortion tailored specifically for analog synth textures.
- Resizable GUI: High-resolution user interface designed to scale smoothly on modern high-DPI displays.
JUPITER-8 is available to PC and Mac users (VST3, AU and AAX).
