Fifteen years ago, long before Auburn Sounds became a recognized name in audio DSP, they released a simple, linear-phase binaural panner under the name GFM Psypan 1.0. The Evolution: Psy-1 vs. Psy-2
Rather than discarding legacy behavior, Psypan 2 preserves the original algorithm as Psy-1—delivering strict linear-phase binaural panning with 64-point sinc interpolation.
Alongside it debuts Psy-2, an upgraded binaural engine featuring:
- 128-tap interpolation and 64-bit double precision.
- Hand-tuned IIR spectral curves that move the sound image realistically in front of the listener—avoiding the “overhead pass” illusion common to older panners.
- Tuned gain and delay offsets engineered to naturally pop elements out of a mix without phase issues.

While Psypan started as a pure binaural tool, version 2 expands far beyond spatialization. It acts as a single multi-effect utility for all stereo field duties, divided into three core categories:
- Binaural Panning (5 Modes): Range from classic legacy algorithms to multiband processing that leaves your low-end intact and centered.
