Shadaloo Audio DSP Release APD Compresssor – A FREE Download

Shadaloo Audio DSP have released APD Compresssor, available as a FREE download. Donations are welcomed.

Getting vocals to sit cleanly and consistently in a mix is often one of the trickiest parts of music production. Dialing in static compression parameters can lead to over-compressed peaks or soft passages getting buried. APD Compressor, a vocal-focused dynamics plugin by Fabio “Shadaloo” Caterino (Shadaloo Audio DSP), addresses this challenge with a fresh, signal-adaptive workflow.

Rather than acting as a static utility tool, the APD Compressor is designed specifically to respond dynamically to incoming audio. Its envelope behavior adapts organically as compression engages—meaning parameters like Threshold, Attack, and Release interact with one another and the program material in real time. The result is smooth, musical dynamic control that preserves natural vocal expression without sounding choked.

Beyond dynamic management, APD Compressor features an integrated Texture stage. Placed before the compressor, this stage adds level-dependent harmonic saturation with 4x oversampling. It enriches vocals with smooth 2nd, 3rd, and 4th order harmonics while keeping harsh upper harmonics controlled—saving you from having to stack extra saturation plugins in your signal chain.

Features include:

  • Vocal-Focused Dynamics Processing: Tuned specifically for vocal mixing to keep performances balanced and upfront.
  • Program-Dependent Envelope Reaction: Threshold, Attack, and Release adaptively interact with incoming audio level and density rather than operating as purely isolated controls.
  • Integrated Pre-Compression Texture Stage: Dialable pre-compression harmonic saturation with 4x oversampling to add warmth and presence.
  • Controlled Harmonic Profile: Texture stage emphasizes pleasant 2nd, 3rd, and 4th harmonics while restraining higher-order harshness.
  • Essential Parameter Controls:
    • Texture: Bypassed at OFF; adjustable 1%–100%.
    • Threshold: ~0 dB to -40 dB range.
    • Attack: ~0.1 ms to 100 ms with signal-adaptive behavior.
    • Release: ~10 ms to 2000 ms with program-dependent release curve.
    • Output Gain: ±24 dB range.
  • Visual Metering: 10-LED gain reduction meter lighting right-to-left (threshold steps: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, and 20 dB).

APD Compressor is available to PC and Mac users (VST3 and AU).
