Liljeholmen DSP have released Trumsynt-16, available for $49.00.
Liljeholmen DSP’s flagship offering, Trumsynt-16, is a dedicated single-voice percussion synthesizer built around deep audio shaping, high-definition sound engine architecture, and a dynamic modulation sequencer. Designed for music producers and sound designers who demand more character than static sample libraries can offer, Trumsynt-16 bridges classic drum synthesis techniques with crisp modern DSP processing.
At the core of Trumsynt-16 is a synthesis engine engineered for audio purity and punch. The oscillator stage operates at 8x oversampling before being downsampled through a custom 31-tap FIR decimator. This drastically reduces unwanted digital aliasing, giving kicks, metallic hats, and aggressive snares a smooth, analogue-style top end and weight in the low register.
The sound architecture combines two voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) alongside dedicated noise and transient click layers. With features like FM synthesis, hard sync capabilities, pre/post-drive saturation, and a specialized Metal Mode on VCO 1 (designed to reproduce metallic, 606-style hi-hat textures), the instrument moves easily from classic vintage rhythms to experimental sound design.
Beyond oscillator architecture, drum synthesis relies heavily on envelope control. Trumsynt-16 incorporates six separate decay envelopes, pitch envelopes per oscillator, and noise-driven filter modulation. The custom UNTZ envelope shape allows producers to quickly dial in punchy transient curves optimized specifically for low-end weight and transient impact.
The built-in step and modulation sequencer unlocks granular parameter control per step. Featuring individual lane lengths for polymetric polyrhythms, per-step pitch and velocity offsets, and assignable MOD A/MOD B lanes, Trumsynt-16 functions as both a standalone sound design tool and an expressive groove machine.
Features include:
- Dual-Oscillator Architecture: Two main oscillators (VCOs) with FM synthesis capabilities, hard sync options, and pitch envelopes per oscillator.
- 8x Oversampled Signal Path: High-resolution oscillator generation downsampled through a 31-tap FIR decimator to eliminate aliasing artifacts.
- Specialized Sound Engines: Includes a dedicated Metal Mode on VCO 1 for authentic vintage metallic hi-hat and cymbal synthesis.
- Layering System: Dedicated transient click and noise layers for shaping attack characteristics, plus noise-driven filter modulation.
- Multi-Stage Drive & Filtering: Switchable Low-Pass and High-Pass filters combined with pre-drive and post-drive saturation stages.
- Six Envelope Generators: Independent decay envelopes alongside a signature UNTZ envelope shape engineered for transient punch and low-end impact.
- Assignable Step/Modulation Sequencer: Built-in pattern sequencer featuring independent lane lengths for complex polyrhythms.
- Granular Sequencer Control: Per-step control over pitch, velocity, and dual assignable modulation lanes (MOD A and MOD B).
Trumsynt-16 is available to PC and Mac users (VST3 (beta) and AU).
