Introducing Dynamic Image Wavetable Synthesizer, a VST3 plugin that turns any image into a playable wavetable instrument. By simply dragging and dropping an image onto the plugin’s interface, you can generate wavetables dynamically, opening up a world of experimental and evolving sounds.
TugImgSynth 2.0 — the big one
A synthesizer that plays pictures. This is the first update since April 2025, and almost nothing has been left alone. The instrument still works the way it always has — a path is traced across the brightness of an image and that becomes the wave your notes play — but now the picture can move, the path can be drawn by hand, the image can be read as a spectrum instead of a waveform, and every knob on the panel can be wired to anything with a cable you can see.
Features include:
- Moving pictures. Drop in a video, an animated GIF or a folder of stills and the wavetable moves with it.
- Live camera. Point a camera at something and play it.
- Draw your own scan path with the mouse, anywhere on the picture.
- Spectral mode. The picture becomes a harmonic series rather than a single cycle — a completely different instrument from the same image.
- A modulation system rebuilt from scratch: drag a source onto any control, see the cable, shape the curve, set the depth.
- A modal resonator, an arpeggiator, and delay, chorus and reverb.
- MTS-ESP microtuning.
- Presets that carry their picture — and now their video, GIF or frames.
TugImgSynth is available to PC and Mac users (VST3, AU and standalone).
