Amy Nicola McBride Releases Vesper: Living Synthesizer – For IOS

Amy Nicola McBride has released Vesper: Living Synthesizer, available for $14.99.

Let a single note bloom. Explore Swarm, precise retuning, expressive filters and two Orbits that can influence each other’s speed.

Let a single note bloom into a swarm.

Vesper is a virtual analogue synthesizer for iPhone and iPad, made for rich tone, expressive playing and the pleasure of discovering a sound. From intimate bass and singing leads to drifting chords and restless pulses, her controls invite you to listen, touch and explore.

Swarm turns oscillator B into a gathering of up to 15 voices within each note. Bring them close, spread them apart, and use Teardrop to shape the balance between the centre and the edges. Explore precise ratio relationships between oscillators A and B, or adjust their relationship freely. Retuning becomes part of the music: a way to find intervals, beating and slowly changing colour.

Move smoothly through sine, triangle, saw and pulse waves. Add a sub oscillator and coloured noise, draw out harmonics with Fold, and soften their edges with Glow. Shape the result with resonant low-pass, high- pass, band-pass and notch filtering. The filter can follow musical ratios too. Stereo delay and Space reverb give each sound room to linger.

Two Orbits bring movement to your patch, from gentle vibrato and long sweeps to sample-and-hold patterns. Let either Orbit change the other’s speed, or let both influence each other, for motion that speeds up, slows down and keeps unfolding. Long- hold a supported control to explore its modulation assignments.

Play with MPE, polyphonic aftertouch, velocity and slide. Assign expression to the sound, let notes glide with polyphonic portamento, and turn a held chord into a pattern with the arpeggiator’s rhythms, octave range and chance control. Explore alternative tunings with Scala scale and keyboard-map import.

Harvest a Noise Jar, give it a name, and keep or share it as a repeatable noise source for your sounds. Build a personal collection alongside your patches. Start with the included sounds, save your discoveries, and exchange banks with other musicians.

Zoom into the controls you want to explore and watch the sound move in the live scopes. Play Vesper as a standalone instrument or bring her into compatible AUv3 hosts for your sessions.
