Soft Brew Mobile Update Ringo Beats: Chaos Drums – For IOS

Soft Brew Mobile have updated Ringo Beats: Chaos Drums, available as a FREE download with an optional.in-app purchase that unlocks the AUv3 Instrument and MIDI.

What’s new in version 1.1.0:

  • TWO NEW VOICES – The machine now plays eight drums instead of six.
  • RIDE trades off against the hi-hat. The two keep time for each other: when one is riding the beat the other steps back, the way a drummer moves between the hats and the ride, and the further you push BLEND toward chaos the more plainly they alternate
  • CRASH lands where the fills land. It shares the chaos that drives the fill engine, so it marks the turn of a phrase instead of scattering at random
  • Both get their own row in the policy grid, their own mute, their own fader and their own MIDI note and channel — lock them on or off, mix them, or send them to another instrument like any other voice. Every kit plays them: the eight synthesised kits voice them like the rest of their drums, and the sampled rock kit answers with a real 22″ ride and a real crash.

Most drum machines follow rigid rules: step sequencers execute grid patterns, static samples repeat endlessly, and humanize knobs add slight timing nudges to keep things from sounding entirely robotic.

Ringo Beats: Chaos Drums takes a completely different route. Instead of looping pre-programmed MIDI patterns or triggering audio clips, it generates drum parts live using chaotic mathematical equations filtered through a self-learning Markov model.

The core philosophy of the app is simple yet clever: Chaos proposes, the policy disposes.

Traditional generative beatmakers usually rely on basic random number generators. Ringo Beats uses three distinct dynamical systems to generate rhythms from scratch:

  • Lorenz Attractor: Drives the primary dynamic engine behind the kick, snare, and clap.
  • Hénon Map: Controls the flickering micro-rhythms and variations of the hi-hats.
  • Logistic Map: Determines when and how chaotic drum fills detonate.

Because these nonlinear equations are deterministic, they create complex, evolving structures rather than pure noise.

To turn raw chaotic signal into musical rhythm, Ringo Beats routes these values into a per-voice Markov policy. This engine learns from its own output over time, reinforcing patterns that groove and filtering out musical nonsense.

You control the interplay between raw mathematical turbulence and structured rhythm using a primary BLEND slider.
