2 New Modules & More For Nikolozi’s Mela

Nikolozi has updated Mela, available as a FREE download with optional in-app purchases.

What’s new in version 7.16:

  • Macro-8
    • The new Macro-8 module is a modulator whose Mod signals equal the values of its Macro 1…8 parameters.
    • Each Macro parameter sets its Mod signal value in the [0%, 100%] range.
    • On the Targets page, Source selects which Macro parameter modulates each target. – Only parameter controls assigned to targets are displayed.
    • Macro-8 is a Mela Lab module and part of Collection 5.
  • One Pole
    • The new One Pole module processes Audio signals using a virtual-analog low-pass or high-pass filter with a 6 dB/octave slope.
    • Type selects LP or HP, and Frequency sets the cutoff frequency.
    • The high-pass output is the original signal minus the low-pass output at the same cutoff frequency.
    • This complementary relationship makes One Pole ideal as a gentle crossover filter for creating multi-band effects with Splitter.
    • Factory Patches: Added “3-Band Panner” to the Subpatches folder, demonstrating multi-band processing with One Pole, Splitter and Balance.
    • One Pole is part of Collection 4.
  • Patches
    • Skill: Added “Patch Skill (Experimental)” under More in Settings, linking to instructions for Al assistants to create and edit Mela patches
    • Factory Patches: Moved drum patches from Synth FX to the dedicated Drums folder.
    • Factory Patches: Added six new patches to the Drums folder: “Drum Synth Clap”, “Drum Synth Cowbell”, “Drum Synth Hi-Hat”, “Drum Synth Kick”, “Drum Synth Snare”, and “Drum Synth Tom”
    • All six Drum Synth patches were created by Al using the Patch Skill and are included unmodified. Each comes with 10-12 remotes for tweaking the sound.
  • Other Changes
    • Pop-up Lists: Fixed missing selection checkmarks on macOS 27 and misaligned checkmarks on iOS 27.
    • Menus: Restored action icons on macOS 27. ⁃ Menus: Restored cart icons for locked modules on macOS 27.
    • Standalone App: Improved responsiveness when starting audio, switching back to Mela, or changing audio devices
    • Musical Keyboard: Fixed individual keys animating unexpectedly when showing the keyboard.
    • Musical Keyboard: Octave Up and Down now scroll by exactly one octave, preserving the position of partially visible keys instead of aligning C to the left edge.
  • Modules: Duplicated and pasted modules now receive unique names, making them easier to identify when assigning remotes and modulation.
  • Correlation: Simplified by removing the sidebar and bringing its design in line with the Meter modules.
  • Meter, MIDI Meter: Fixed broken module renaming by temporarily showing the sidebar while editing

Mela is a modular music-making tool that scales with your needs. With its intuitive interface, you can seamlessly build fully custom polyphonic synthesisers, unique audio effects, and complex MIDI processors. Mela can run as a standalone app on iOS and macOS or as an AUv3 plug-in inside your favourite DAW such as AUM, Drambo, Logic Pro and many more.

In Mela, presets are constructed using modules arranged on lanes, where signals flowing through the lanes are processed by the modules. Audio and MIDI signals can be sent and received to and from the host or routed between lanes using internal buses. Modulator modules can target any module parameter on any lane. Lanes and modules are easily added, removed, or rearranged, allowing you to design presets as simple or complex as needed. Mela comes with 76 modules, with new ones added with every update. The following are some examples from different categories.

Mela can be loaded inside a host as one of the following plug-in types: Instrument, Audio Effect or MIDI Processor. The only difference is the number of audio and MIDI inputs and outputs. Otherwise, the features are identical, and a preset created in one type can be opened by another.

Modules are organised into collections. Collection 0 is free, allowing you to test out Mela’s features. Other collections can be purchased via in-app purchases. The following is a list of all modules.
