Cem Olcay Releases GlitchBud 8×8 Realtime FX

Cem Olcay has released GlitchBud 8×8 Realtime FX, available for $5.99.

GlitchBud is a live glitch effect for your whole rig. Put it across up to 8 stereo tracks and play rolls, stutters, shuffles, tape stops, reverses, gates and frozen textures from one pad grid

Hold a pad to glitch the music. Let go, and the dry audio returns. There is nothing to record or load first: GlitchBud always listens, so every pad is ready the moment you touch it.

  • 8 stereo inputs, 8 stereo outputs. Most glitch effects sit on one stereo track. GlitchBud passes 8 separate lanes, and you patch each pad to the lanes you choose. Glitch every track at once, only the drums, or drums and bass together, locked in time.
  • The rest of your mix plays on. A pad touches only its own inputs.
  • Each glitch can have its own output. Send it to your own reverb, delay or filter.
  • Made to be played. Pads can wait for the next beat or bar, catch a moment that just passed, and sound a little different each time.

16 Effects

  • Repeat: Roll, Stutter, Erode
  • Rearrange: Shuffle, Sequence
  • Speed: Tape (Stop and Rewind), Reverse
  • Gate: Gater, with a 16-step pattern
  • Texture: Freeze, Scan, Smear
  • Stems: Scatter, Relay, Stagger, Loom, Crossfire

The Stems effects do not glitch a mix: they make your tracks play each other. Relay lets the tracks take turns, step by step. Stagger plays them as a canon. Loom loops each track at its own length, for a polyrhythm from your own parts. Scatter breaks them into a cloud of grains. Crossfire lets one track fire pieces of the others: each kick can throw a chop of your lead or vocal.

Play

  • 64 pads on 4 pages (A-D). All 64 are live: a latched pad plays on while you work on another page.
  • Hold or Latch for each pad. Touch a pad with two fingers to latch it while you play.
  • Pads layer: hold many at once, also on the same input. Mono plays one pad at a time.
  • Sync: effect times in note values (straight, triplet, dotted) or in milliseconds.
  • Grid: in a host, the pad starts on the next beat or bar.
  • Lookback: start the effect on the audio from before your touch.
  • Mutate: a random change on each hit, as much as you want.
  • Speed: 0.25x to 4x. Pitch and time change together, as on a turntable.

Routing and mixer

  • Each pad has one or more inputs, one output, Wet and Gain.
  • The mixer has In, Dry and Out levels for each of the 8 buses, with meters.
  • Set Dry to 0 to use a bus as a glitch return.

MIDI

  • Each pad plays from its own MIDI note and channel.
  • Give the same note to many pads, and one note fires a whole scene.
  • Let a sequencer play the pads, for written or generative glitch parts.

AUv3 and standalone

  • AUv3 audio effect with MIDI input, for AUM, Loopy Pro, Drambo and other hosts.
  • In a host with multi-bus support, route up to 8 tracks in and 8 channels out. Other hosts use In 1 and Out 1.
  • Synced times and Grid follow the host tempo. Bypass and Pattern are host parameters. Your setup is saved with the host project.
  • The standalone app uses the microphone or an audio interface, with one input and one output.

Also

  • 13 factory presets, from Drum Breaker to Full Rig, and your own user presets.
  • 12 themes, and a color for each pad.
  • A waveform that glitches with the pads.
  • A tutorial in the app, and a full manual with 14 recipes.

GlitchBud has glitch effects only: no filter, delay or reverb. Send its 8 outputs to the effects you already love.
