Cat Psychedilia have released Purrigee, available as a FREE download. Donations are welcomed.
Purrigee is a reverb for making pads and drones (a drone is a sustained sound that keeps ringing without a break) by stretching out whatever you play.
Play a chord and let go: the sound doesn’t die away but keeps floating in the air, then falls slowly, over a few tens of seconds on the longer presets. It’s made for ambient and shoegaze backdrops, intros and transitions between songs, and for building a thick layer of sound from a single guitar or piano. The name combines “perigee”, the point where the Moon comes closest to the Earth, and a cat’s “purr”.
At its centre is a mode called HOVER. With HOVER on, the reverb barely fades while you play, and new notes are gradually layered on top. When you stop, the sound hovers for a few seconds and then fades out slowly. With HOVER off, it works as a regular reverb.
The amount is set with one big knob called TIDE. At 0 you hear the dry signal only, and turning it up makes the reverb deeper. Past the middle, the dry signal stays at full level and only the reverb grows.
Features include:
- 24 presets in 4 groups:
- DUSK: short rooms, a plain reverb
- HALO: medium length, with a soft glow
- PERIGEE: long, dark drones
- LUNACY: the pitch of the tail sways slowly
- Each preset also sets whether HOVER is on and how long the sound hangs
- Tweak panel: DECAY (1.5 to 30 s), TONE (dark to bright), SHIMMER (an octave-up glow) and HOLD (how often HOVER soaks in new sound)
- Input and output gain (±24 dB) on either side of TIDE
- When you change presets, the old tail fades out over 0.25 seconds first, so there’s no click
- When the input stops and the tail has died away, processing rests and CPU use drops to almost zero
- Resizable window (75% to 200%)
- No account, activation or internet connection needed
