Chih Han Lin Updates Contour – Ambient Morph Synth

Chih Han Lin has updated Contour, available as a FREE download which unlocks the Pro version.

What’s new in version 1.0.2:

  • Releasing a note no longer drops it to middle C at the centre of the sheet. Whatever you played, wherever your finger was, the tail carries on from there – in the app and in the plug-in
  • Touching the terrain inside a host makes sound. The plug-in used to move the position and then wait for a note from somewhere else: a finger on its own screer olays it now, the way it always has in the app
  • Chords in a host no longer leave notes stuck on. Four of them used to run the plug- in out of voices and silence it for good
  • MAP X and MAP Y follow automation aqair – a CC mapped in AUM, a curve drawn in Logic. The plug-in was receiving them and dropping them.
  • Aftertouch no longer pulls a sounding note down to middle C in the plug-in
  • SHEET in the plug-in opens the sheet list instead of waiting for ever on “Loading ibrary….. Baking a new sheet stays in the app, where it runs
  • A proiect saved in a host opens on the sheet vou saved it with, even if you have deleted one of vour own sheets since.
  • Composing a sheet: the preview sounds ike the corners you are looking at. Dragging an axis used to change the terrain on screer and nothing else.
  • The envelope handles stay where vou grabbed them. Dragging ATTACK could pick up DECAY and RELEASE on the way past and pin all three at once.
  • A near miss in the sheet menu no longer closes it, and a sheet is chosen when you lift your finger – so you can slide off it to change your mind,.

Contour — Ambient Morph Synth offers an intuitive approach to generating evolving drones, deep atmospheric pads, and moving soundscapes directly on your mobile setup.

Rather than focusing on rigid, step-based sequencing or complex menu-diving, Contour centers its workflow around movement and timbre-morphing. The core idea is simple yet generative: seamlessly transition between complex timbral profiles to create continuous, living sound structures.

Whether you are composing film scores, generating backdrop textures for lo-fi beats, or crafting long-form ambient soundscapes for relaxation or meditation, Contour provides an interactive visual workspace that turns patch design into a fluid experience

Features include:

Sound Engine & Synthesis

  • Morphing Engine: Advanced timbral interpolation for fluid sound-shaping between atmospheric states.
  • Ambient Sound Generator: Specialized for creating evolving pads, rich tonal drones, granular textures, and cinematic backdrops.
  • Custom Preset Library: A curated collection of factory presets tailored for ambient, experimental, and soundtrack production.

Control & Modulation

  • Visual Interface: Clean, tactile control interface optimized for iPad and touch interaction.
  • Dynamic Parameter Shaping: Deep control over filter contours, modulation rates, and envelope dynamics.
  • MIDI Connectivity: Full MIDI input support, allowing you to play the synth using external MIDI controllers, touch keyboards, or host sequencers.

Integration & System

  • AUv3 Plugin Support: Seamless integration as an Audio Unit v3 plugin in hosts such as AUM, BeatMaker 3, Cubasis, and GarageBand.
  • Standalone Mode: Run the app independently for quick design sessions, live improvisations, or ambient background generation.
  • Universal iOS/iPadOS Support: Designed natively for iPad with support across compatible iOS environments.
  • Lightweight Footprint: Fast load times with an app size of around 113 MB
