What’s new with DroneLab:
- All-new sound engine based on analog multisamples
- Onscreen keyboard with scale mode
- External MIDI control
- AUv3 plugin compatibility
Expanding on concepts introduced in the original DroneLab app, DroneLab Pro transports soundscape synthesis to new sonic territory.
The sounds start with custom-created analog multisamples, each with four velocity layers. Two different analog synthesizers were sampled, one with warm, pitch-drifting voltage controlled oscillators (VCOs), and one with precise digitally controlled oscillators (DCOs).
Also included are two electric guitars, one steel string and one nylon hybrid. They were recorded clean, and looped to provide smooth, ambient tones which for the most part sound nothing like a guitar.
There are two layers which can independently load the multisamples. Each layer includes filter modulation which can be BPM synced. The layers can be set to drone on their own, and they be also controlled by the onscreen keyboard or external MIDI.
An additional sound effects layer starts with rain, stream, river, and city sounds recorded specifically for DroneLab Pro. These can be used as they are, or modulated for unusual yet natural-sounding effects.
The smooth, lush reverb can be tweaked to compliment the sounds with richness and depth, with each layer having separate control over the reverb amount.
Using DroneLab Pro…
…with just your iPad:
Play and control the sounds directly from the app. It can drone on its own, or you can play along with a drone sound with the onscreen keyboard. You can play chromatically, or choose from scales including major, minor, harmonic minor, mixolydian, and many more. The included presets include notes and scales that work well together.
…with an external MIDI controller
By connecting a class-compliant USB MIDI controller, you can play notes and tweak parameters.
…as an AUv3 plugin
Use DroneLab Pro with Logic Pro, Garageband, Cubasis, AUM Mixer, or any other iPad app which supports hosting AUv3. All audio parameters are saved with your songs, and can be automated from within your host application.
Features include:
- Two instrument parts and one sound effect part
- 8 synth sounds and 2 guitar sounds, multisampled and looped, each with four velocity layers
- 5 environmental looped sound effects
- Filter modulation for each part
- Global reverb with amount per-part
- Master compressor with gain reduction meter
- In-app recording
- 9 factory presets
