As it is, Ruinator comes with 5 distortion modes:
- Soft Clipping – A softer, more saturation style sound, the Character knob controls the harmonic balance.
- Hard Clipping – The same, but more gain, this is the most ‘pedal’ distortion to me. Again the Character knob controls the harmonic balance.
- Fuzz – Fuzz is Fuzz… The character control changes the Bias. All the way up makes the sound more chopped and gated sounding.
- Bitcrush – Reduces the bitrate from 16bits down to 1bit, with the character controls Mu, this helps preserve dynamics while still distorting and crushing the sound.
- Sample Reduce – Reduces the sample rate from…, the character control increases jitter.
- Pitch Distort – The wild card. This is based on chaining pitch shifters, one up then one down. The Distortion knob increases the interval the sound is shifted, from 1 semitone all the way to an octave. As it uses delay lines to implement this, the Character knob changes the delay speed, modulating this gets things into the glitchy arena.
