Crocus Soundware have released LIMINAL: Tactile Reeds, available at the intro price of $42.00, increasing to $70.00 after the promtotion.
LIMINAL: Tactile Reeds is a library of intimately recorded Clarinet, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Oboe and Bassoon samples – playable using Kontakt. The library’s articulations are aleatoric, long and evolving, with the performer imparting character and movement into each sample. Notably, we recorded several banks worth of incredibly soft, pianissimo Clarinet performances, which were mic’d to capture the air moving through the instrument. The result is an airy and fragile sound which teeters between breath and pitch.
The audio was recorded using large-diaphragm condenser microphones, often placed within centimeters of the instruments. This allowed us to capture hyper-intimate details into the samples. The library is well suited to add unpredictability and creative imperfection. The LIMINAL range is not specifically intended for fast passages or soaring melodies. Instead, you may see the libraries as collections of naturalistic pads – offering humanistic details not found in something derived from a synthetic source.
The user-interface allows articulations to be layered, mixed and reversed. The ‘crossfade gizmo’ allows artful blending of sound layers with intuitive color-coded controls. LFO controls can also be enabled, allowing your DAW’s tempo to dictate the modulation of an individual layer’s volume. This opens the door for tempo-synced swells and unleashes even more creative possibilities for evolving texture. A new Randomize feature has been added, which allows you to instantly generate unique combinations of sample banks, layer and LFO states.
