Bass Engine 1

In DopeSONIX’s experience, there are generally two types of bass synth, the 30Gb monsters that have twelve velocity layers on each note, multiple round robins and an unlimited number of options or the contemporary plug-ins that are aimed at electronic producers who love the real low-end bass and 808 sound. Bass Engine is the brand new alternative…

Three Decades of Hip Hop Bass

With Bass Engine we have studied the last three decades of Hip Hop production and have the selected the most representative bass sounds of that era. These basses include everything from dusty jazzy upright bass to floor shaking 808’s and everything in between.

1990’s

The 1990s were the golden era of Hip Hop, common production techniques involved the heavy use of sampling with machines such as the MPC 60 MKII or the SP-1200. Basslines were usually made with bass notes and lines sampled from old Funk, Soul and RnB 12” vinyl records.

The first 100 presets in Bass Engine represent this unique sound so be prepared for crackly upright basses, deep Moog tones, live electric samples and abstract jazzy bass sounds.

2000’s

During the 2000s Production techniques changed slightly with more and more producers using hardware bass synths to achieve a nice deep and punchy sound. The Emu Mo’ Phatt was a popular rack module among some while the ASR-10 and MPC 3000 samplers were still heavily used by the traditional cratediggers.

The second 100 presets in Bass Engine represent this smoother sound so you will discover deep dirty basses, solid sub’s, fat Triton patches and clean vinyl cuts.

2010’s

The 2010s have been dominated by the synth, sub-bass and 808 sound. Whether its Hip Hop, Trap, Dubstep or even Reggae. These highly produced yet deep ‘n’ dirty bass sounds have been devastating clubs and festivals throughout the world.

The final 100 presets include fifteen different 808’s, Moog Prodigy Subs, Warm MS-20 deep vibes and a whole collection of low end, heavy basses.

Bass Engine 2

It has been two years since we released our best ever selling plug-in Bass Engine and we are delighted with the response we have received from all the Hip Hop producers that have brought it. The one request we have heard more and more though was the need for more 808’s and vintage analogue sounding bass instruments, so here at DopeSONIX, we made sure to fill this VST with fat 808’s, heavy Moogy subs, futuristic deep pads and a cool collection of uprights and electric basses just for good measure. If you have Bass Engine 1 and 2 in your collection you pretty much have every bass sound you could possibly use in Hip Hop production, no doubt!

With Bass Engine 2 we have decided to create a bass plug-in that will fulfil all your 808, sub and vintage bass synth requirements. You will find over 300 brand new bass instruments all lovingly EQ’ed and processed through a Drawmer 1961 Dual Vacuum Tube Equaliser for that deep low- end warmth and solid mid punch where needed.

The 808 is undoubtedly the king of the bass in Hip Hop/Trap right about now and has been for nearly a decade or more, because of this we had to make sure the 808’s in Bass Engine 2 punched harder and deeper than any 808 VST’s released so far. We also spent time cooking up never heard before layered 808’s mixed with a crazy assortment of synth stabs and pads to give your productions a fuller, fatter sound.

The first 150 presets in Bass Engine 2 are devoted strictly to the legend that is the 808, deep booming tones and spacey sub-bass goodness.

Since the 1970’s hardware synths have been capable of producing a vast range of low-end tones, rich in harmonics and analogue warmth so its understandable that these once forgotten musical beasts are now commanding huge prices to lucky collectors. Nothing can compare to the original hardware units sound but we have done our best to bring you a flavour of what these classic synths are capable of.

The second 75 presets in Bass Engine 2 represent this huge range of sonic delight ranging from moody, deep tones to short, punchy bleeps and everything in between.

In an age where hardware and software bass synths reign supreme in Hip Hop production, the classic electric bass and upright still have a place in the sonic landscape. Both are capable of plenty of low-end goodness while still having enough mid punch to cut through any mix, plus there are times when your beat just needs that vintage character.

The next 50 presets includes dusty uprights. the classic jazz bass, deep dub vibes and a whole selection of dope live bass instruments.

The sub-bass is probably one of the most loved basses in music today, whether its liquid drum and bass or Southside drill you will find this pure bass tone underpinning many ill beats, creating low-end vibes that will rattle any speaker and make the club rumble all night.

The final 25 presets include a variety of pure sub-bass along with a unique collection of subs mixed with subtle haunting pads, abstract stabs and cinematic textures.
