AudioThing Release Echo Bundle

AudioThing have released the Echo Bundle, available at the intro price of $99.00, increasing to $119.00 after the promotion (bundle value $284.00). The offer ends April 30th.

The Echo Bundle features all AudioThing echo and delay plugins, including tape and wire echo emulations, classic BBD delays, nostalgic 8-bit/chiptune echoes, unusual filterbank delays, and our unique moon bounce simulator with 50+% discount.

Wires

German composer and YouTuber  Hainbach opened his treasure chest for us: we are happy to present to you Wires, an accurately modeled and enhanced 1970s Soviet wire recorder.

Made originally for military and secret service use across the Iron Curtain, in the hands of a few avant garde musicians it became a magical lofi-tool and ghostly echo machine. Now this rare and rather finicky to operate piece of hardware is available for the first time as a faithful yet modern plugin. Transform your audio to the world of numbers stations and secret operations, dub out to very unusual echoes or make the most lofi beats to study too.

We took great care to get all the idiosyncratic behaviour exactly right – it reacts dynamically to the input and does stuff to audio that is a completely different texture to magnetic tape. There is a special tone to the hair-thin wire and the vacuum tube output stage of this machine, unheard of anywhere else. The standard way to make a unit such as this music is to put it on an aux channel of a mixer, to turn it into a fixed tempo echo. We offer all the variable time features you want, as well as the option to switch off the rather high noise floor of this machine without sacrificing the rather alive sound.

Outer Space

Outer Space is a faithful Space Echo plugin emulation, the iconic vintage tape echo made in the early seventies.

As the original unit, Outer Space features a tape echo section with three playback heads and two spring reverb tanks.

We have modelled three different tape frequency responses and saturations, along with all the analog imperfections of tape recording/playback.

We have also modelled the ballistic response of the delay rate (repeat rate) which can create eerie pitch shifts (due to the Doppler effect), one of the classic tape echo-based sound effects.

Mantis

Mantis is a plugin that emulates a rare BBD (bucket-brigade device) delay/echo unit of the 70s, faithfully recreating its warm and analog sound.

As the original unit, Mantis features an echo section with four taps and four swell selectors. It also features the rotafaze section, a modulation that can mimic the wow/flutter of a tape echo or turn the unit into a unique chorus-delay.

The Mantis has eight TDA1022 chips, often associated with shorter and more precise delay, these chips are perfect for organic analog slap-back echo. The base delay time is fixed on the hardware, but in the plugin in “vintage” mode, the base delay can be set in the range of 1.02ms up to 102.4 (as each chip has 512 stages and each tap uses 2 chips). In a BBD circuit, the frequency response changes depending on the base delay: brighter at faster rates, and darker at slower rates. To avoid these limitations, we also included a “modern” mode, which allows a base delay of up to 1sec (free) that is also syncable to the Host/DAW tempo.

Reels

Reels is a tape emulation plugin with built-in echo section and tape start and tape stop effect.

Based on an old Japanese portable tape recorder with a very distinct Lo-Fi analog sound, Reels emulates all the imperfections of consumer reel-to-reel recorders.

We have modeled three different 1/4” tape frequency responses and saturations, along with all the analog imperfections of tape recording / playback.

Reels will add a very rough retro analog sound to your mixes. If you are looking for a Hi-Fi mastering tape emulation, this is not the plugin for you!

Things – Bubbles

Things – Bubbles is an unusual filter bank effect plugin aimed at experimental sound design. You can use up to 10 band pass filters, represented by bubbles in the UI, with controllable resonance. Each band can have a dedicated delay with feedback. You can spread the cutoff, resonance, delay time, and delay feedback across each band to get very creative effects, from odd sounding echoes/reverbs to impossible sequences.

miniVerb

miniVerb is an 8-bit/chiptune and lofi reverb effect inspired by the sound of 80s game consoles and retrocomputers.

Early consoles didn’t have much power for DSP effects, so the video game composers at that time had to improvise. The most common way to add a sense of space/reverb to the sound was to sacrifice one of the internal tracks to play a delayed version of the original sound, essentially using a slapback echo to add depth.

The technique evolved and eventually, consoles started to take advantage of more power for real internal effects.

miniVerb recreates that classic digital echo/reverb sound, made famous by iconic consoles such as the NES and SNES, topping it with two filters (post/pre), vibrato, and crusher (bit crusher, downsampler, pitch shifter).

Moon Echo

In our seventh collaboration with Berlin-based musician Hainbach we listen to the stars: Moon Echo is a free to download delay based on a communications technique that uses our closest cosmic neighbor, the moon, as a reflector for radio waves. This results in some rather crunchy and lively echoes, modulated by the movement of Earth and moon. The moon’s surface is an imperfect mirror and creates artifacts, unlike any other echo technique. Moon Echo is both a musical lo-fi effect and a playful tool for teaching about space.

The Echo Bundle is available to PC, Mac and Linux users (VST2, VST3, AU, AAX and CLAP).
