Stuart Frederich- Smith has released WaveStack Modulate for iPadOS, (previously desktop only), available as a free download with an optional in-app purchase that unlocks the Pro version.
WaveStack Modulate makes movement for your synths: LFOs, random changes, shapes you draw and chaotic motion. It sends it out as MIDI CC to other apps and hardware, or as control voltages and gates to a modular through a DC-coupled audio interface such as the Expert Sleepers ES-9.
Each source is a shape: sine, triangle, saw, square, sample & hold, smooth random, Morph, or a shape you draw. Or a chaotic system: a moving field with six motions, a double pendulum, the Lorenz attractor and random walks. Each source has four outputs of its own, called taps.
Send each tap to one or more outputs, up to 64. Each output is a MIDI CC (7 or 14-bit), a control voltage or a gate.
A source can change another source’s speed, depth or shape. One LFO can speed up another, or a random walk can change a shape. Set it up from a list or a grid.
Sources run at a speed you set, or in time with the tempo, from 8 bars to 1/32. Set the tempo, tap it, or follow MIDI clock. As an AUv3, Modulate follows its host. Outputs can send a clock, run and reset.
With a DC-coupled audio interface, outputs send CV with a voltage range, or gates. Quantize CV to a scale at 1 volt per octave. Use the interface’s inputs as sources, or follow a clock on one at 1 to 48 pulses per quarter note. Expansion modules that add gates and CV jacks are supported too.
Resolution turns a smooth shape into steps. Smooth rounds off corners. Rough adds a slow random drift.
Modulate keeps sending while you work in other apps.
