Thistressor is a Distressor-inspired compressor plugin featuring an analog-style signal path and asymmetric diode-like distortion, designed for producers seeking punchy, musical compression with character.
It combines a flexible compression section with classic controls, an intelligent sidechain and detector for shaping signal listening (RMS, Peak, Combined), and analog-style asymmetric distortion applied both before and after compression.
The plugin employs a clean parallel compression architecture with a dedicated dry path and a wet path that includes input gain compensation, pre-distortion blending, sidechain-controlled compression, and ratio-dependent post-distortion.
Thistressor’s internal side-chain features a filter chain with a high-pass filter, an HF emphasis shelf filter, and a mid-focus peak EQ, mimicking Distressor-like filtering to shape compression behavior.
Detector modes include RMS for musical averaging, Peak for transient sensitivity, and Combined, which blends RMS and Peak based on the ratio for versatile compression responses.
Custom asymmetric diode-based distortion with Drive, Saturation, and Asymmetry controls offers various modes from Clean to Hard, allowing for subtle harmonic enhancement or extreme coloration.
Additional musical mode switches like Brit Mode and Nylon Mode, along with an Auto Release function, provide distinct compression flavors and an easier ‘set and forget’ workflow, complemented by 20 factory presets and helpful tooltips.
