Genuine Soundware have released GSi Burn Studio, available for €30.50 (including Tax).
GSi Burn Studio is an innovative programmable effect processor plugin that breathes new life into the legacy of the classic GSi BURN hardware unit manufactured between 2013 and 2017. Originally built around the Spin FV-1 digital signal processor—a legendary single-chip ASIC designed by the late Keith Barr (founder of MXR, Alesis, and creator of the ADAT)—the original hardware was renowned for its stellar rotary-speaker (Leslie) simulations alongside chorus, phaser, delay, reverb, and amplifier effects. Unfortunately, hardware production had to cease when key electronic components became unavailable.
In 2016, GSi decided to completely revisit this heritage by developing a sophisticated software-based Spin FV-1 emulator. Burn Studio accurately compiles and executes original SpinASM projects, and can even decompile .bin and .hex files. While it functions out-of-the-box as a free-to-use effects processor loaded with popular classic algorithms, unlocking the plugin reveals powerful creation tools. Sound designers, hobbyists, and developers can write their own custom assembly code, load third-party Spin FV-1 presets from popular online repositories, design custom user interfaces, and even export their code directly into C++17 classes or hardware-ready EEPROM files.
Features include:
- Spin FV-1 Emulation: Emulates the Spin FV-1 DSP chip, capable of compiling, running, and decompiling .spn, .asm, .bin, and .hex files.
- Built-in DSP Code Editor: Features a code editing tab with syntax highlighting, live execution controls (RUN/STOP), and built-in error checking for SpinASM code.
- Included Classic Algorithm Library: Comes pre-loaded with classic GSi BURN algorithms (such as rotary speaker simulation, delays, reverbs, and modulation).
- Export Capabilities: Exports algorithms to .bin or .hex files ready for physical 24LC32 EEPROMs, or exports self-contained C++17 class code for developers.
- Customizable Graphical Interface: Includes a UI customization tab allowing users to modify knob parameters, labels, sizes, colors, styles, title headers, and background options (solid color, gradient, or custom image).
- Preset & Program Management: Features an intuitive menu to import, export, and share custom programs and banks with other users
GSi Burn Studio is available to PC and Mac users (VST2, VST3, AU and standalone).
